Biography

Dr. Ch. Srinivasa Rao acquired his Ph.d in Soil Science & Agricultural Chemistry from IARI, New Delhi and Post-Doctoral (Fellow) from Tel-Aviv University, Tel-Aviv, Israel.

Dr. Rao worked in ICAR in different capacities from Scientist to Director. Currently, he is serving as Director of ICAR-NAARM, Hyderabad since 2017. Prior to this, he served as Director, ICAR-Central Research Institute for Dryland Agriculture (2014-17) and Project Coordinator (All India Coordinated Research Project on Dryland Agriculture) during 2013-14. He also served the International Crop Research Institute for Semi-Arid Tropics (ICRISAT), Patancheru, Hyderabad for two years.

Dr Rao is the recipient of about 40 national and international awards which includes Rafi Ahmed Kidwai Award for Outstanding Research in Agricultural Sciences, 2019 in the field of Natural Resources Management and Agricultural Engineering.

Dr, Rao received prestigious awards from Hon’ble President of India and Hon’ble Prime Minister of India for his research and management contributions.

Dr Rao is a Fellow of National Academy of Sciences, National Academy of Agricultural Sciences, and Member of various National and International Committees including International Dryland Development Commission (IDDC), Cairo, Egypt, and Asian Long Term Experimental Network for Agriculture (ALTENA), Japan.

Dr. Rao led as National Coordinator for ICAR-flagship program on Climate Change, NICRA. He was technical Chairman of National Mission for Sustainable Agriculture (NMSA), Climate Change Negotiator in Indian delegation represented at UNFCCC, SBSTA, COP meetings at Spain, Germany and France. Member of Indian Delegation at 49th Session of IPCC held at Japan; Co-chaired the CDC and Steering Committee meeting of Asia Pacific Network (APN) for Global Change Research held at, Bangkok, Thailand.

Dr. Rao’s Specialization are: Soil Carbon Sequestration, Carbon Balance, Dryland Production Systems, Climate Change, Contingency Crop Planning, Agriculture Research Management, Climate Policy.

Dr. Rao has 30 years of research, extension and education experience with 319 Research Papers, 49 Books authored/edited and reviewer for 15 International Journals, 12 copyrights, 19 Policy/Strategy/Status Papers and visited more than 15 countries for scientific meetings.
